MASTERCLASS is an intensive that focuses entirely on original material. Master teacher and creator of The Technique™, Joan Scheckel, selects scenes at random from the class. Using those scenes as examples, she sensitively diagnoses what is needed to elevate the work. Then, by applying the tools of The Technique, she works through each step it takes to clearly and organically bring great scenes to life.  

Insights abound as all students discover how the tools can be practically applied to unleash the power and voice of their content.  Up level, integrate and unlock a profound new understanding of how to approach your rewrite.

Masterclass invites you to really THINK through the steps to structure your scene and crack open the clear, emotional core of your work. Every participant receives a detailed Workbook with templates and checklists to guide your preparation step by step.   

Each Masterclass, Joan addresses different aspects of content making.  Insights include:

1. How to find and use a "Hot Coal" to  a create a scene from a sketch, idea or image.
2. Utilize a Crib Sheet to crack open the heart of your story and get it on the page or screen.
3. How to use Action, Beats and Blocking to clarify and embody an unforgettable scene. 

Joan selects 1 - 4 submitted materials at her discretion. You may prepare and submit one of the following:

1. A Hot Coal (sketches, index card ideas, etc.) 
2. A Completed Crib-Sheet from the Workbook.
3. A Scene and a completed Crib Sheet. 
4. A Pre-shot scene; shot on location with blocking and a completed Crib Sheet.
